Game of the Matchday

 Coventry 4–1 Newcastle

Had to be this one. Sure there may have been better, back-and-forth games but ask The Sky Blues what this win means to them. After a quarter of a century, Coventry finally won a premier league game at home. And it was electric.

The CBS Arena was bouncing and they had reason to as Coventry put 4 past Newcastle in a commanding home display. They took their chances more often than not and Newcastle's lack of a cutting edge cost them but take nothing away from Frank Lampard's boys, they stole the show.

Biggest Surprise

Liverpool 0–3 Manchester City

There was so much, so much noise going into this game from the whole footballing world. Anfield hosted a bunch of anti-City tifos, banners and chants but when it came to the pitch, Liverpool really failed to deliver at all.

To be fair, Liverpool were the better side up until Ryan Gravenberch's sending off with City being incredibly tame and blunt. However, from that point onward, City completely killed the game by scoring twice under 6 minutes after the red card, and then another after 10 minutes.

There is still no clear cut answer for if this win will even be important come the end of the season, will it even count? All we can do, like the players, is take it one game at a time, and this game proved why City are top of the table.

Best Team Performance

Chelsea 5–1 Bournemouth

Chelsea were at their quickfire best as they effectively decided the result of the match within 3 minutes of the start. They scored twice in 3 minutes in a blistering start that totally caught Bournemouth off guard and they never really convinced to recover from that.

The interesting observation is that Chelsea actually only generated an xG of 1.10 — a metric bettered by The Cherries' 1.38. Chelsea also only created 2 big chances — a metric also bettered by Bournemouth's 3. However, The Blues bettered Bournemouth in the metric that truly matters, and that by a lot.

Wonderful performance with absolute top class finishing. I would have said 36-year-old Jordan Henderson rolled back the years but did he ever impacted this way at Liverpool!? I can't remember!

Player of the Matchday

Jeremy Doku (Manchester City)

Liverpool must hate the sight of this man. Jeremy Doku loves to play against The Reds and was once again the centerpiece of City's win at Anfield. The Belgian timed his return from injury just in time so he could play his favourite opponents.

Within 10 minutes of Doku's arrival, he drew Gravenberch's challenge which proved very costly for Liverpool. His shot rebounded and fell for Erling Haaland. He then curled one himself. And he finished it off by drawing 2 Liverpool players to himself to free up space for Rayan Cherki to dance past Jeremie Frimpong and slot home the third of the night.

He is must-watch against Liverpool.

Honorable mentions - Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (Everton), Dara O'Shea (Ipswich) & Jordan Henderson (Chelsea)

Moment of the Matchday

Ipswich scores 2 goals at the death against Fulham

Watch the comeback here

Nothing really beats a one-two punch at the death does it? It looked like Álvaro Arbeloa was about to get his first win as Fulham boss at Portman Road until the 88th minute. He did not even get a point for leading up to that point as Ipswich equalised in the 88th minute and then scored the winner in the 2nd minute of stoppage time.

A rocket from Abdoul Ouattara ignited the comeback and a late header from their captain Dara O'Shea completed it. These are the moments you look forward to before the season begins and the moments you look back to after the season ends.
