Game of the Matchday 

Manchester City 2–1 Newcastle

Recent history of this fixture suggested we were about to witness another one-sided match dominated by Manchester City, but what we got instead was an open, end-to-end encounter. With the pressure of Arsenal’s derby looming, the pressure at the Etihad was visible, seemingly not felt by Nico O’Reilly. He looked like the most assured man on the ground, opening the scoring with a clinical strike before bagging the winner with a perfectly timed header. Those goals came on either side of a Lewis Hall equalizer, turning the game into a sub-plot for the England left-back berth. Numerous missed chances and a string of top-tier saves from Nick Pope and Gianluigi Donnarumma ensured the scoreline remained a tight one until the final whistle.

Biggest Surprise

West Ham 0–0 Bournemouth

The scoreline suggests a dull affair, but the underlying numbers tell the story of a statistical shocker. West Ham finished the match with a massive 3.27 xG, yet somehow failed to find the back of the net a single time. It was a night of utter frustration for the Hammers, who saw Crysencio Summerville and Callum Wilson miss chances that they would usually convert with ease. Bournemouth spent the majority of the game pinned back, surviving 20 shots and riding their luck as the ball went everywhere but into the goal. For a West Ham side desperate to pull away from the relegation scrap, dropping two points despite such dominance is a bitter pill to swallow.

Best Team Performance

 Tottenham 1–4 Arsenal

If there were any lingering doubts about Arsenal’s mental strength after a few dropped points, they were emphatically answered at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Gunners once again dismantled Spurs in a 4-1 victory for the 2nd time this season. Eberechi Eze was mildly underperformed his usual lofty performances against Spurs, scoring just a brace this time as opposed to a hat-trick. Even after Spurs briefly leveled the game, Arsenal never looked like losing control, with Viktor Gyokeres adding a brace of himself and having his best game in an Arsenal shirt. After Thomas Frank was sacked, this was the perfect opportunity for Igor Tudor to instantly make his mark and capitalize on Arsenal's little wobble in form, but that mountain proved too steep to climb. 

Player of the Matchday

Nico O'Reilly (Manchester City)

This game featured plenty of good performances, particularly from the likes Omar Marmoush, Erling Haaland, Rodri and Rayan Ait-Nouri among others. But the one performance which proved to be the most decisive was a 21-year-old academy graduate's. Nico O'Reilly was deployed in a role that required both defensive support and attacking output, and he scored a brace that kept City’s season on track. His first was a showcase of pure ball-striking, while his second showed the desire to contest and win a header against a physical Newcastle backline. With every performance like this, he isn't just a squad player, he’s becoming an essential part of Pep’s starting eleven, an argument can be made that he already is, considering he's making the likes of Rayan Cherki, Phil Foden and Tijjani Reinjders sit on the bench.

Liverpool’s trip to the City Ground was heading toward a stale 0–0 draw that would have been disastrous for their Champions League hopes. After an 'abysmal' first half and the frustration of having a goal ruled out by VAR, it felt like one of those days where nothing would go right for the Reds. Then came the 97th minute. In a moment of persistence, Alexis Mac Allister reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box to hammer home a winner again, only difference was this time the goal stood. According to Opta, at 96:10, this was the fourth-latest winning goal in Liverpool’s Premier League history. Oddly enough, this is the second time in three years they’ve snatched a winner in the dying minutes at this specific stadium. The scorer last time around? A certain Darwin Nunez.

Brentford began the game in an expected dominating fashion with goals from Michael Kayode and Igor Thiago before 40 minutes were gone.  However just before the break, Adam Armstrong pulled one back for Wolves, inspiring the visitors.
