Ruben Amorim is supposedly turning the tide at Old Trafford. After a wobbly start it's now 4 wins in 5 games with 3 on the bounce for the Red Devils. United flew out of the blocks, cruising with bangers from Matheus Cunha and Casemiro, with Bryan Mbeumo adding another after half-time, to go three up and seemingly out of sight. But as always with United, it’s hardly ever that simple. Former Red Danny Welbeck curled in a gorgeous free-kick to spark life into Brighton, and when Charalampos Kostoulas made it 3–2 deep into stoppage time, United fans feared the worst. Just when panic started creeping in, Mbeumo stepped up again, smashing in his second to seal the win and settle the nerves. A breathless, end-to-end clash and a welcome result for Manchester United who have not won in this fixture since 2022. 

Biggest Surprise

Brentford 3–2 Liverpool

Brentford pulled off a stunner at the Gtech, defeating defending champions Liverpool 3–2 and handing them a fourth straight league defeat. From the first whistle, the Bees smelled blood and stung hard. Dango Ouattara and Kevin Schade tore into Liverpool’s shaky defence to make it 2–0 on the brink of half-time, exposing cracks you couldn't see last season. Milos Kerkez did pull one back just before the break to offer a bit of hope, but Igor Thiago’s calm penalty killed that off soon after. Salah ended his mini league goal drought to make it 3–2 late on, but by then Brentford had already decided they weren’t letting this one slip. The final whistle felt huge, Liverpool look lost. Has the PL Trophy already slipped out of their hands?

Best Team Performance

Everton 0–3 Tottenham

Tottenham became the first away team to beat Everton in their new home stadium, brushing them aside 0-3 in what was the most complete team performance of the week. From back to front, they looked in total control, compact when defending  and ruthless when the chances came. Everyone did their job to perfection. It was mature, which was perhaps missing under Angeball.

Player of the Matchday

Micky Van de Ven (Tottenham)

Micky van de Ven blessed those who had him in their FPL team with 2 goals, multiple defensive contributions and a clean sheet! He stole the show this week, being a brick wall at the back as well as making a real mark at the other end too. Calm on the ball, frightening with his recovery pace, sharp in the duels, and oozing confidence, Van de Ven ran the game from the back and looked every bit like one of the Premier League’s top defenders right now. The Lilywhites have a solid centre-back up their sleeves.

The moment of the weekend came from Sunderland’s shokcing 93rd-minute winner against Chelsea. With the game tied at 1-1, Brian Brobbey held up a long ball forward for what felt like an eternity, fending off defenders and waiting for the perfect opening. Then came Chemsdine Talbi, arriving on the edge of the box. Without even taking a touch, he delicatley curled a first-time strike that wnet through the crowd and nestled into the bottom corner. Bedlam. That goal fired Sunderland into the Premier League’s top four, capping off one of the most dramatic finishes of the season so far. Can you believe it? Sunderland, top 4 in the table after 9 games.

Brentford began the game in an expected dominating fashion with goals from Michael Kayode and Igor Thiago before 40 minutes were gone.  However just before the break, Adam Armstrong pulled one back for Wolves, inspiring the visitors.
