Game of the Matchday

Crystal Palace 3–3 Bournemouth 


Nothing topped the 3–3 thriller between Crystal Palace and Bournemouth at Selhurst Park this matchday. Bournemouth looked set for another impressive win after Kroupi Jr. scored twice in the first half to make it 2–0, but Palace, led by Jean-Philippe Mateta, came roaring back. Mateta scored twice in quick succession to bring his side level and flip the momentum completely. Ryan Christie’s late strike in the 89th minute seemed to hand Bournemouth the points, only for Palace to be awarded a penalty deep into stoppage time. Mateta calmly converted in the 97th minute to complete his hat-trick and rescue only a point, which could have been 3 points had he not missed the last shot in the dying moments of the game. Pure Premier League chaos. It seemed apt that this match was played during the Diwali weekend because it had plenty of fireworks in it!

Biggest Surprise

Liverpool 1–2 Manchester United

The shock of the weekend came at Anfield, where Manchester United stunned Liverpool 2–1 and handed them a fourth straight defeat. Few expected United, still finding their rhythm under new management, to pull this off. Bryan Mbeumo gave United the perfect start inside two minutes, and though Liverpool dominated possession and hit the post a few times, they only found a late equalizer through Cody Gakpo in the 78th minute. Just when it looked like Liverpool might snatch a win, Bruno Fernandes delivered a perfect cross that Harry Maguire - who has been United's saviour of late, headed home in the 84th minute to silence Anfield. United’s first win there in almost ten years reshaped the title race and plunged Liverpool into a real crisis.

Best Team Performance

West Ham 0–2 Brentford 

Brentford’s 2–0 win at West Ham might look routine, but it was tactical perfection from Keith Andrews’ side. They pressed smartly and nullified every West Ham attack with precision, creating five clear-cut chances and firing 22 shots to the Hammer’s 7, only 1 being on target. Igor Thiago and Mathias Jensen got the goals, but the real story was Brentford’s utter dominance across every phase. This was a performance that showed how a well-drilled team can control a match completely.

Player of the Matchday

Jean-Phillipe Mateta (Crystal Palace)

Yes, it could have been better. Were they the most stunning goals ever? No. But there is no debate here, Jean-Philippe Mateta takes the honours. A second-half hat-trick and a last-gasp penalty rescued Palace from defeat and demonstrated his clutch mentality. Two clinical finishes pulled Palace level, and the 97th-minute penalty secured the point. His performance combined character and timing, making it the perfect example of a player stepping up when it matters most.

The Palace-Bournemouth clash produced the most dramatic moment of the weekend, and both highs and lows came from Mateta. It is amazingly contradictory to be the player the matchday and yet disappoint his and his club's fans to an extent. First, he scored the 97th-minute penalty to level the match at 3–3, sending Selhurst Park into bedlam. Then, just two minutes later, he found himself unmarked with a chance to win it outright and somehow blasted it over the bar. From hero to almost-heartbreaker in the blink of an eye. Unpredictable, thrilling, and completely mad.

Brentford began the game in an expected dominating fashion with goals from Michael Kayode and Igor Thiago before 40 minutes were gone.  However just before the break, Adam Armstrong pulled one back for Wolves, inspiring the visitors.
