Game of the Matchday

Crystal Palace 2–1 Liverpool 

Crystal Palace continue to have Liverpool’s number. They once again proved they have the blueprint to dismantle a high-flying Liverpool side in this entertaining clash. Ismaïla Sarr opened the scoring, continuing his exceptional record against the Reds. While Federico Chiesa managed to pull Liverpool level, the resilient Eagles had the last word. Eddie Nketiah’s stoppage-time winner meant Palace  getting a dramatic, thoroughly deserved victory and thus, ending Liverpool's winning start to the campaign. A match filled with big chances decided in the final attack of the game.

Biggest Surprise

Nottingham Forest 0–1 Sunderland

Ange Postecoglou's first home game in charge of Nottingham Forest, but the script went spectacularly wrong. Forest, expected to dominate, could not break down a resolute Sunderland defence, with the newly promoted Black Cats demonstrating a spine rarely seen in teams tipped for the drop. This result isn't just a loss for Forest, it’s a sign that the promoted sides this season are far more unpredictable, and potentially far more dangerous, than initially predicted.

Best Team Performance

Manchester City 5–1 Burnley

The scoreline tells the story of dominant destruction, yet this wasn't a game where City had to be at their absolute, dizzying best. They simply turned solid control into devastating damage. They dismantled Burnley with clinical ruthlessness. A five-goal haul against any Premier League opponent, even on a day they weren't 'peak' firing, is a testament to the fact that their 'off-days' are still better than most teams' best. That is what big teams do and that is exactly what Man City did in this game.

Player of the Matchday

Erling Haaland (Manchester City)

For nearly an hour, Erling Haaland was subdued. But a player's performance is judged over the entirety of his playing time. The Norwegian star assisted Matheus Nunes and finally broke free very late in the game to score a brace that put a commanding finish on the match. His performance showed relentless determination and hunger to get on the scoresheet himself. He didn't dominate the full 90 minutes, but when his opportunity arrived, he capitalised with the lethal precision that separates him from the rest, finishing the match as the unquestionable difference-maker.

This matchday was defined by the drama packed into its final minutes. This wasn't just a single moment, but a whole bunch of game-changing strikes that altered the table and the mood of multiple clubs. Palace sealed their upset against Liverpool in stoppage time. Bournemouth grabbed a late equaliser against Leeds to salvage a point. Brighton overturned Chelsea with a flurry of late strikes to win at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal won at St. James' Park with a late, pivotal goal. Spurs were rescued by João Palhinha with a stoppage-time equaliser against Wolves. Brentford began the game in an expected dominating fashion with goals from Michael Kayode and Igor Thiago before 40 minutes were gone.  However just before the break, Adam Armstrong pulled one back for Wolves, inspiring the visitors.
