Game of the Matchday

Brentford 2–2 Chelsea 

An absolute thriller at the Gtech. Kevin Schade set the stage for a great match after putting one past Sanchez inside the first half. Enzo Maresca's substitutions altered the momentum as Palmer equalised before Garnacho's cross eventually fell in the way of Moises Caicedo, who fired in a rocket! And just when it seemed Chelsea had survived, up popped Fabio Carvalho in stoppage time to crash the party, thanks to Brentford's throw-in set piece routine.

Biggest Surprise

Burnely 0–1 Liverpool

What makes this surprising is, for 90+ minutes Burnley had Liverpool frustrated, they blocked 12 shots, made 48 clearances and looked like they were about to pull off the upset of the weekend. Even after going down to 10 men late on, their organisation and sheer numbers behind the ball had Red hearts in mouths. And even though Liverpool escaped with all three points courtesy a late Mo Salah penalty, burnley’s grit made this a 'surprise' even in defeat.

Best Team Performance

Arsenal 3–0 Nottingham Forest

Against Nottingham Forest, Mikel Arteta threw in 5 of Arsenal's new signings in the starting 11. That being Gyökeres leading the line, Madueke out wide, Eze pulling the strings, Zubimendi anchoring the team & Mosquera filling in responsibly for Saliba, they all slotted straight in and clicked. Arteta has quality depth in each position and it showed in this match as they put 3 past Nottingham Forest (who have got a new manager in Ange Postecoglou) while reducing their opponents to just one shot on target.

Player of the Matchday

Erling Haaland (Manchester City)


What made me choose Erling Haaland as the player of the matchday was not just his goals in the match. It was the overall package. He tracked back to help his defence, made several clearances and showed desire for more by making dangerous runs in behind and through the United backline. That defensive graft combined with his knack for appearing in the right place at the right time made the difference. What's kind of baffling is that he still underperformed! He could have easily had more than 2 goals. But in the end, an under par Haaland is clearly still very decisive and lethal - a scary thought for the rest of the league.

Moment of the Matchday

Fabio Carvalho's 90+3' equalizer against Chelsea

For nearly 95 minutes Chelsea looked like they had done enough, grinding out a precious away win under the lights at the Gtech Community Stadium. Indian Blues who’d fought off sleep were already celebrating. And then, out of nowhere came a long throw, a flick on, and Carvalho ghosted in to steer the ball past the keeper and make it 2-2. The roar from the stands meant the late-night Chelsea viewing ended in frustration.
