Game of the Matchday

Sunderland 2–1 Brentford

It has been far too long since the Stadium of Light witnessed a night like this. Back in the Prem after all those years, Sunderland are making the most of their home turf, now with two wins out of two in front of their fans. The second half had everything. Schade saw his penalty saved by Roefs, Thiago gave Brentford the lead with a fine header, and for a moment it felt like the energy might dip. But the newly promoted side refused to give up. Le Fee calmly slotted home a pressure penalty to level it up and when it looked like both teams would settle for a draw, veteran Granit Xhaka delivered a teasing cross and substitute Isidor met it with a thumping header in the 96th minute. This wasn’t just three points, it was goosebumps, nostalgia, and pure footballing joy all in one.

Biggest Surprise

Nottingham Forest 0–3 West Ham

That has got to be one of the most surprising results of the season so far. Forest were expected to handle business at home, but West Ham turned up like uninvited guests at a shaadi and ate all the mithai. The game completely shifted after the introduction of Summerville, who wasted no time flying at the Forest defence. Three late West Ham goals and that was it. A cheeky 3-0 away win that no one saw coming.

Best Team Performance

Tottenham 0–1 Bournemouth

One of those games where the scoreline doesn't do justice to the performance. Bournemouth started in the perfect fashion, as Evanilson's deflected effort gave them an eaely lead after 5 minutes. It could have been, and perhaps should have been more than a 1 goal victory for the Cherries as they missed numerous chances to build upon their opener. Such was their control in the game that Tottenham couldn't even record a shot in the first half and just a single shot on target across the 90 minutes.

Player of the Matchday

Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool)


Dominik Szoboszlai’s main event will make all the headlines, and rightfully so, but his overall performance shouldn’t be overlooked. Playing out of position at right-back against title challengers Arsenal, he needed to be at his best. Beyond the banger, he dictated the rhythm, carried the ball with purpose, and kept driving Liverpool forward when the game looked flat. On a rather dull night up to that point, he became the spark.

Three matchdays in, that is now three times in a row that Liverpool has stolen Moment of the Matchday. Wild, right? From Chiesa’s winner in MD1 to Ngumoha’s Ganesh Chaturthi special in MD2, and now this Szoboszlai free-kick in MD3. If drama had a home this season, it’s definitely Anfield. It looked like it was going to be a frustrating night for the Indian Reds as the match really lacking any sort of spark, but Dominik Szoboszlai made sure they would sleep with a smile on their face thanks to an absolute stunning strike. His first true Anfield moment.
